When Mac Laurencin was a kid living in Brooklyn, he had a lot of friends who didn't follow his path. They went to the streets to make their living with crime, drugs, and gangs. There was nothing wrong with those young folks; they just went down a dead-end road.

He thought that maybe if his friends knew there were options for them back then, they would've chosen differently. But, even if they hadn't, he wouldn't want a second chance to pass them by.

That's why he created the F.A.C.T. Vocational Scholarship to allow our younger generation in Chicago and around the nation serving our communities with economic disparity, and sociological disadvantages.

Scholarships shouldn't just be available for students who excel in school or other activities. They should also provide opportunities to young people who might not feel they are open doors. Getting in trouble at school or home, dropping out, or other obstacles shouldn't stop students from achieving things after their primary education is over.

Or Scholarship program is primarily focused on serving youth who are financially and educationally under-served and disadvantaged.

Although graduation rates are on the rise, nearly 17% of Chicago Public School students don't graduate high school as of 2021, and Chicago has a significant wealth/income disparity, with 1 in 5 Chicagoans living below the poverty line. So Laurencin set out to do something to help.

Providing scholarships to individual students doesn't just help them in a single moment of life; it helps them in the long run, along with the communities they live and work in. If everyone did a little something to improve their lives along with those around them, Chicago (and the rest of the world) would be a better place.
